THAT’S ALL I NEED TO KNOW
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." PSALM 23:1 (NKJV)
There are many touching stories that appear on my computer screen over
and over again as different people pass them on to me. Some of them I
never tire of as I get a lift every time I read them. Sometimes they
appear in different forms with different phases or words, and that is a
plus for me.
One of these is the story of the little boy who had a part in a Sunday
School Program. He was to recite the 23rd Psalm. He tried and tried but
he just could not memorize it. People tried to help him but to no avail.
Finally the night came for the program and it was his turn to recite. As
he walked to the center of the stage, his parents, his teacher and
others who had tried to help him became very nervous. They knew that he
did not have the Psalm memorized, and they did not want him to be
laughed at or embarrassed.
He arrived at center stage looking very confident. It was announced that
he would say the 23rd Psalm. In a clear voice he said, The Lord is my
shepherd." he paused and then continued, "And that’s all I need to
know."
That night some people understood the 23rd Psalm for the first time.
WE PRAY: Lord, sometimes we make it so hard for you to reveal yourself
to us. May we also say, in simple faith, "that’s all I need to know." As
His sheep, may we follow as the Good Shepherd leads. AMEN
A SUGGESTION FOR LIVING THE DEVOTION
Several times a day say to yourself, "The Lord is my Shepherd and that’s
all I need to know." Say this not to convince yourself, say it so that
it becomes a natural part of your thoughts. At first, you may have to
remind yourself to say those words when you face a difficult decision in
life. If you keep saying those words, the day will come when the words
will be a part of your natural thinking.
