BE WISE OR BEWARE
“ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And
the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding”. Proverbs 9:10 (NKJV)
The word “fear’ means to stand in awe, to respect. We teach children to
fear, to respect certain things. Don’t touch, that is HOT! Don’t climb
up there, you will HURT yourself. Don't do that, it is BAD. In this same
manner, we are to fear God because He is HOLY.
Think of Adam after he ate from the forbidden tree. He knew that God had
said, “don’t eat from that tree, for if you do, you shall surely die.”
Adam ate. Adam heard God in the Garden of Eden. Adam ran and hid. Adam
feared God. Little children do one of the DON’TS that they have been
taught, and they hide when they hear a parent approach. Later in life,
they might be in enough fear to do the same if they hear a teacher or a
police officer approach.
It would be a terrible thing if our devotion stopped there, if we only
talked about the need to fear God. We would have no hope. But the
passage goes on and tells us that the knowledge of the Holy one is
understanding. Many times I have heard adults say, “The older I get, it
is amazing to me how intelligent my parents were when I was growing up.”
The little child who hides because of disobedience, grows to learn that
mom and dad still have love for him or her even though they did wrong.
In time the knowledge that they are still loved leads to the
understanding of how compassionate and caring the parents are. Adam
found that out. He was evicted from the perfect life in the Garden, but
as he went through the gates, he knew that God was still with him.
BE WISE, stand in awe of our Mighty God. Read and study God’s Word. As
you gain knowledge of God, your understanding of His Love for you will
increase and your love of God will grow by leaps and bounds.
OR
BEWARE, if you don’t respect God; if you don’t try each day to grow in
knowledge of Him, you will never have the desire to follow the Good
Shepherd into the Blessings and Joys of spending Eternity in His House
of many mansions.
WE PRAY:
Divine Instructor, gracious Lord,
O grant our fervent prayer,
Teach us to love Thy sacred Word,
And view the Savior there. AMEN

A SUGGESTION FOR LIVING THE DEVOTION
The next time you hear or read a verse from Scripture where God asks you
to do or not to do something, write it down. Is it something you agree
or disagree with? If it is something you disagree with, pray about it.
Then using a Cross Reference Bible, a Concordance or a Commentary, read
as much as you can about the subject. Then, PRAY over and over until the
Holy Spirit leads you to an understanding. If you need additional help,
ask your Pastor, ask a relative or a friend, or, you may e-mail me and I
will try to help you in your walk with Jesus. The more you know about
Jesus and His Love for you, the more you will trust Him to lead the way.
