DON’T GIVE UP
Train up a child in the way
he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. PROVERBS
22:6 (NKJV)
Many people know this verse, quote this verse and may even know where to
find it in the Bible. Far too many people misread the verse and end up
in disappointment as they walk away from God. You have probably herd
someone say, I didn’t raise my child to act like that. That person might
even continue by saying that "I did what the Bible said and it didn’t do
any good."
If you have ever felt that way, please consider the following:
We are told to train the child. That simply means teach them the stories of
Faith and help them understand how God wants them to live.
We are responsible to teach, we cannot do the living for them.
The passage does not say that the child will not wander away. In fact, it is
just the opposite. Because what was taught will surface and that child, grown to
adulthood, may have strayed but will be back.
If never told as a child, then as an adult, never knows the way back after
straying. In fact -- probably does not know that he has strayed . That is a
Tragedy.
WE PRAY: Lord, I ask you to guide me as I seek to train my child or a child of
the community in the way he or she should go. Help me to do this not only with
my words but also with the way I live my life. AMEN
A SUGGESTION FOR LIVING THE
COMMANDMENT
To see that children are in Sunday School is part of training a Child in the way
he or she should go. If you know of a child who does not go to Sunday School or
Church, ask the parents of the child to allow you to take the child to Sunday
School and Church with you. Please note I said WITH you.
