JOHN SPOKE -- JESUS CONFIRMED HIS MESSAGE 2 And
when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of
his disciples 3 and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look
for another?" 4 Jesus
answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things which you hear
and see: 5 The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and
the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel
preached to them. 6 And blessed is he who is not offended because of
Me." 7 As
they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John:
"What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the
wind? 8 But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments?
Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9 But what
did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a
prophet. 10 For this is he of whom it is written: ‘ Behold, I send My
messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’
(NKJV) The
question of the First Advent is central in this text. Jesus addresses
two entirely different viewpoints of those concerned about "Is Jesus the
Coming One?" First
there is John who is in prison. People tell him what this Jesus is
saying and what Jesus has done. John sent two of his followers to ask
Jesus the question. Second
are the people that Jesus was talking to when John’s followers ask the
question. They were concerned about this rough, coarse, strangely
dressed man who was telling them that he had been sent to tell them that
the Messiah was coming. Jesus
gave a simple response to both. To the followers of John, He said, "Go
and tell John the things which you hear and see." To those who were
gathered to hear Him, He made some comments about what they had come
into the wilderness to see and after His questions and comments He said,
"For this is he of whom it is written, Behold I send My
messenger........" If
there is a question in your mind, hear what Jesus said, see what Jesus
did. Don’t forget that God can and will send His messengers in many ways
and His message in many forms. Always remember, if you have any
questions, ASK in prayer, ASK your Pastor, ASK a friend, SEEK the
answers from the Bible, SEEK the answers in Bible Study with friends,
SEEK the answers in thoughts that may enter your mind or in a message
that might come through God’s creation. FIND the joy of knowing that
Jesus is the Christ, that Jesus is the WAY and that only through Him can
we FIND our way to Life Eternal.
PRAYER
FOR THE WEEK
Lord,
lead me to someone who does not know of You and Your promised return.
Renew and strengthen my faith each day that I might be able to help
prepare the way for you to enter into that person’s heart. Amen
