THEIR EYES WERE OPENED AND THEY KNEW HIM!

28 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther. 29 But they constrained Him, saying, “Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.” And He went in to stay with them.
30 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.
32 And they said to one another, “Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us? St. Luke 24:28-32 (NKJV)

It was on that first Easter, late in the day, that two men walking on the Road to Emmaus met a stranger. They had been talking about the Resurrection of Jesus that morning. The stranger began asking questions, and the two men were amazed that there could be even one person in the area that did not know what had happened that day. They told him that they had gone with others to the tomb of Jesus and He was not there.

At that point the stranger took over the conversation. He related all of the prophecies concerning the Messiah from the time of Moses forward. By the time he had taught them all of those prophecies they reached their destination. The stranger was going to go on, but they pleaded with him to stay with them.

When they sat down to eat, the stranger took the bread, broke it and gave it to them and the verse says,”their eyes were opened and they knew Him.” When they looked up and were probably ready to ask more questions, He vanished from their sight. They thought for a moment and both said that their hearts had burned when the stranger had opened the Scriptures to their eyes and hearts while He talked to them. They hurried back to the city to tell the others that THE LORD IS RISEN, HE IS RISEN INDEED!

WE PRAY; Heavenly Father, send your Holy Spirit upon me that as I read your Word and hear it read, that my eyes might be opened to really know you and that my heart burn with joy and excitement. AMEN
